About the program

The Young Parents Program commenced in February 2013. This community partnership initiative is co-funded by Anglicare’s Communities for Children (CFC) and Chisholm Institute. The Frankston Mornington Peninsula Local Learning Employment Network (LLEN) acts as the lead agency, as part of the CFC Federal funding agreement.

The benefits of a community co-funded program are the increased connections and access to a wide range of community resources for the young people within the program. The Young Parents Program (YPP) is specifically tailored to meet the needs of young parents, aged between 15-25 years of age, who have disengaged from secondary education. The young people either have a child up to four years of age or are expecting a child. The parent and child share the same learning space with the support of three program staff: VCE Educator, 3A Abecedarian Early Childhood Educator and Family Support Worker.

Each young participant is funded for two years of attendance in the program. In this time, they have the opportunity to complete their Victorian Certificate of Education – Vocational Major (VCE VM) qualification at either Year 11 or Year 12 level. The Young Parents Program operates four days per week from 9am to 2.30pm, with each participant attending three days per week
