Chisholm is piloting a new way of becoming a TAFE teacher at Chisholm through the Quality TAFE Teacher Program. This program employs individuals as a teacher at Chisholm and supports them to complete a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment. It guarantees full time employment (fixed-term contract) at Chisholm upon successful completion of studies.

How does it work?
If you are accepted into the program, you will start working at Chisholm while you undertake your Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE), and simultaneously undertake work placement with Chisholm students or apprentices.
Normally the Certificate IV in Training and Assessment qualification takes 9 months to complete however the custom delivery of this course will have you ready to teach classes sooner.
Program support
- To support your career change, Chisholm is connecting all new Quality TAFE Teacher staff with specialised mentors and a buddy system.
- This TAE intake will solely be delivered to people just like you, who are perhaps new to study and seeking a career change. This will help foster a supportive environment of like-minded peers.
- Work placement experience at Chisholm will be supervised and will equip you with practical skills in teaching to support your learning.
Program delivery
Commencement: 28 October 2024
TAE content delivery duration: approximately 10 weeks intensive delivery upfront with up to 13 weeks to finalise assessment work
Delivery mode: On campus at Dandenong and practical classroom assessments (supervised)
Salary range: $78,564 - $107,995. Salary is determined based on industry, years of experience and recruitment process.
Quality TAFE Teacher – An example of what your week might look like
- The course will be delivered Monday to Friday commencing 8.30am.
- Three days will focus on the TAE course theory including individual and group work.
- Two days will be supervised teaching via practical placement in a Chisholm classroom with students or apprentices. This will support you to be ready and confident to start teaching on completion of your qualification.
Program requirements and eligibility
You must be an industry professional or qualified trades person in a priority area. Priority areas are determined prior to announcement of new intake.
You will also:
- have industry or trade experience of at least 3+ years
- be an Australian citizen or have the right to work in Australia
- provide a valid Employee Working with Children Check (WWCC).
Educators will be required to provide all employee eligibility documents and qualifications via Cited for verification.
