Pathway to a mechanical and manufacturing engineering tech degree

• Enter the 3 year Bachelor of Engineering Technology (Mechatronics) from high school.
• Successful completion of the Diploma of Engineering Technology 22478VIC may gain you credit transfers based on subjects you've studied.

If you don’t already have a Diploma you can earn your Diploma at Chisholm - we offer courses from Certificates to Degrees to help you pathway to your degree.

What you'll learn

• To work to professional practice levels and ethics expected by Engineers Australia and the Australian Government.
• Advanced skills in problem-solving, industrial automation, engineering system design, advanced manufacturing processes, computer-aided design and workplace training.
• All the advanced and necessary knowledge typical of an engineering course from foundation mathematics to the materials and physical sciences, and computer-aided design (CAD).
• To evaluate and analyse the fundamental concepts, ideas processes and products involved in managing complex engineering projects.
• The fundamental principles of how to lead and manage teams in multidisciplinary and multicultural workplaces.

How you'll learn

• On campus, in industry-standard facilities such as the structural mechanics lab, thermodynamics lab, material testing lab, fluid mechanics lab, manufacturing lab, prototyping lab, and CAD/CAM lab.
• Through hands-on learning, with equipment such as collaborative robots (cobots), vision systems, hydraulic and pneumatic systems and programmable logic controllers (PLCs).
• By taking on projects, on briefs provided by industry. Work on topics related to production engineering, manufacturing, component design and more.
• With supported learning, ongoing feedback and more contact hours per week, compared to at university.
• With student services and student support for both domestic students and international students, whether you've got questions about your core units, credit points or advanced standing.

Timetable

• Full-time: Three days a week on campus.
• Part-time: Flexibility to choose subjects that work around the timing of your other commitments.

Work integrated learning opportunities

• 8-week (320 hours) industry placement organised by Chisholm.
• Organisations that offer placements include REDEI Renewable Energy Solutions, Hilton Manufacturing, AUTO Pacific, Western Health, R&I Instruments and Walkinshaw Group.
• You'll also work on a 13-week capstone industry project in semester six.
• Career counselling, professional development training and job placement guidance to help you prepare for the workforce.
