When working on a construction site, people face risks. That’s why it’s important to know how to avoid dangerous situations and be confident enough to do the job well.

At Chisholm, we are offering free* short, accredited training courses to help people re-skill and find work in the construction industry.

These short courses are the fastest way to get the skills required for a job in construction, including on Victoria’s major infrastructure projects. The courses are also popular with people who are already working in the industry and who want to broaden their job opportunities.

Successful completion of each course mean that participants gain a ‘ticket’, which is formal proof that they have gained the knowledge and skills they need to work safely in a particular area.

Enrolments are open now for the following short courses to get job ready, reskill or upskill:

“Our Construction Industry Skill Sets offer a great opportunity to people who are unemployed, wanting to upskill or looking for a career change,” said Clint Johnson, Chisholm’s Skills and Jobs Centre Manager.

“There is always demand for qualified workers in this area. With so many different roles and projects, there are a lot of opportunities to progress – people can choose a path that suits them. And it’s an industry that has steady employment projections, offering career stability and advancement.

“Best of all, the qualifications are nationally recognised, so people are qualified to work anywhere in Australia.”

When participants complete their courses, the Chisholm Skills and Jobs Centre can assist with individual career counselling (if required) and will share information on construction industry vacancies as they come to hand.

In addition to individual applications, employers that have a number of staff needing these skills are welcome to submit group applications.

Construction Industry Skill Sets are part of Victoria’s Skills First program, which subsidises training and tuition-free training at TAFEs.  They complement other initiatives to support Victoria’s economic recovery, such as Free TAFE, the Course in Working Safely in the Solar Industry and Course in Introduction to the National Disability Insurance Scheme.
