Michael pivoted from retirement to a trade course and a new career in cabinet making
After retiring as a university professor, Michael met his partner and then welcomed a baby to the family. Michael decided he'd better return to work, but he wanted to do something different, and cabinet making seemed interesting. Michael found work at a local joinery business and started his apprenticeship training. Michael is now thriving in his second year of a Certificate III in Cabinet Making and Timber Technology at Chisholm. He attributes much of his success to mentors he admires, including his boss and course teacher.

Carly goes from a certificate accounting course to a job at an award-winning accounting firm
Mum of three, Carly, started her career journey by completing a Certificate IV in Accounting and Bookkeeping. This qualification allowed her to move on to a diploma and an advanced diploma in accounting. Then she completed a Bachelor of Accounting and is now a chartered accountant at a boutique Melbourne firm. Carly says her Chisholm courses laid down a great foundation. They allowed her to incorporate the theory with the practical work and gave her confidence when navigating accounting systems.

Stefanos achieved his goal of making a career change and working in allied health
After an extensive career in accounting, Stefanos (Stephen) was looking for a change. When volunteering at a hospital, he was inspired by the allied health professionals he worked with. So, Stephen enrolled in a Certificate IV in Allied Health Assistance. While studying, he benefited from the support of his dedicated teachers. Chisholm’s Skills and Jobs Centre also helped Stephen prepare his CV and get ready for interviews. He then secured the role he wanted as part of an allied health team and put his new skills to work.

Basirat prepared for a career that better suited her and her family
After moving to Australia from Russia and then having a child, Basirat decided to change careers to one that suited family life. She enrolled in a Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care at Chisholm because it was close to home, flexible, and would give her a new career path. Although Basirat faced challenges with language barriers, she gained confidence and excelled in her training. She was even nominated for the Trainee of the Year Award in the 2024 Chisholm Education Awards. Basirat continues to build on her skills and plans to take on a bachelor's degree next!

Liara faced her challenges head-on and turned her passion into a career in beauty
Liara's career journey started when she completed a Certificate III in Beauty Services during year 12. She then decided to carry on with a Diploma in Beauty Therapy at Chisholm. Liara sometimes had challenges at school due to hearing difficulties. She recognises that those challenges are part of the reason for her love of hands-on tasks and her success in her TAFE beauty therapy course. Liara says her course teachers were instrumental in helping her develop her skills, drive and confidence. Liara now works at a local luxury spa and hopes to work for herself someday.
