Admission requirements

You must be 18 years or older and be currently employed as a Dental Assistant.

You must have successfully completed Certificate III in Dental Assisting (HLT31812,HLT35015,HLT35021).

Inherent requirements

Physical:
• Stand and walk for long periods of time (more than 30 minutes)
• Provide basic cleaning duties including but not limited to, wiping down surfaces, mopping, carrying cleaning products of varying weights including buckets, cleaning agents and other pieces of equipment between locations and ability to operate a step ladder safely.

Cognitive:
• Robust interpersonal skills including written, verbal and non-verbal practices.
• Work within infection control and general WHS guidelines.

Technology
• Basic computer literacy, including but not limited to the use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint), email functions, internet browsing and other general computer functions
• Access to the internet to engage in self-study

Emotional:
You need to have the emotional strength and flexibility to handle patients’ needs and be able to manage stress like meeting deadlines, managing expectations and handling tasks

Language, literacy and numeracy

You are required to complete a language, literacy and numeracy skills test before course commencement. This will determine course suitability and if you may need additional support.

We use an approved online skills review tool to determine your language, literacy and numeracy skills within the Australian Core Skills Framework (ACSF).

Below are the levels required for this course:

• Reading skills ACSF 2 (BKSB – English)
• Writing Skills ACSF 2 (BKSB – English)
• Numerical skills ACSF 2 (BKSB – Math)

Practical placement

There are no practical placement requirements for this course.

Simulated work environment

This comprehensive program offers a unique blend of in class learning experience in our state-of-the-art Dental Simulation Laboratory, with workplace consolidation of skills. We have specifically selected hands-on units that will be relevant and useful in a dental clinic. This will be beneficial to practitioners in upskilling dental assistants with these specific skills.
