This course is designed for beginners who are interested in learning the ancient process of wax carving
Over two sessions you will use a range of tools and equipment to carve, shape and melt wax to create your own unique ring designs.
The skills acquired during this workshop can be easily transferred to making earrings, pendants, and bangles.
Once you have formed your designs in wax, your ring or rings will be sent off for casting (15grams of sterling silver and casting fees are included in the cost of this course).
Then two weeks later when your ring/s are back from casting you will learn how to finish and polish.
Over the two sessions you will learn the following:
- About the different types of wax available, and their uses.
- About the different types of tools for wax carving
- How to measure ring size
- How to add texture to wax
- Building up wax versus carving out
- Design considerations
- How to clean up, file, finish and polish your ring once it has been cast in sterling silver.
During the first session, there will be plenty of opportunity for exploring and experimenting with different techniques. By the end of the second session, you will have one or two sterling silver rings to take home with you.
