Choosing a career path is a hard decision, but Chisholm Institute of TAFE believes in flexibility to enable students to keep exploring their options.

In Year 11, Nicholas started a pre-apprenticeship in plumbing (Certificate II in Plumbing) as part of his secondary education.

While he enjoyed the course, he eventually made a conscious decision to return to school for Year 12 and complete a VCE Vocational Major at Chisholm Institute of TAFE.

Throughout his studies, it became clear that this education pathway suited Nicholas much better. He made real progress, developed initiative, and exceeded his goals and expectations during course work.

Nicholas has overcome significant challenges due to his autoimmune condition. Despite facing days of extreme fatigue and illness, he continues to try hard with his studies, displaying resilience and determination. His ability to manage and overcome personal challenges underscores his strength of character.

Nicholas is also committed to volunteering in the community at the Salvos.

Nicholas was selected as a finalist in the Secondary Student of the Year Award category of the 2024 Chisholm Education Awards for his remarkable resilience, academic achievements, and dedication to personal and community advancement. While he faces daily challenges brought on by his autoimmune condition, to overcome personal and medical obstacles, Nicholas has demonstrated persistence in his studies. He consistently completes tasks promptly and generously assists his classmates with their own work.

Nicholas's achievements are a testament to the transformative power of diligence and ambition to reach educational milestones and personal development goals.
