The Australian Government Department of Employment says there were over 60,000 automotive service mechanics employed in 2022. There is also a steady demand for skilled workers due to the increasing number of vehicles on the road. As an automotive light vehicle mechanic, you’ll develop high-demand skills and enjoy problem-solving in a rewarding career with strong prospects and personal satisfaction.
On successful completion of the Certificate III in Light Vehicle Mechanical Technology apprenticeship you’ll be qualified for roles such as an automotive tradesperson or light vehicle motor mechanic.
In your apprenticeship you’ll gain real-world skills by working with an employer full time. At the same time, you’ll learn from industry-experienced teachers at our state-of-the-art automotive workshops.
You’ll get hands-on experience servicing everything from batteries and transmissions to engines. Your skills in petrol fuel, air conditioning, and braking systems will be developed. You'll also learn about workplace safety and equipment.
Please note: Students may be required to undertake an assessment of their literacy and numeracy as part of their application process.

Chisholm courses are subject to minimum and maximum group numbers. Courses may be cancelled or postponed if minimum numbers are not achieved by the start date of the course. Courses may close prior to the start date if the maximum numbers are reached. In that situation, eligible applicants will be offered a place in the next available intake.
